The Bugatti Automobile was purchased by Volkswagen with an intention of creating the fastest car in the world. They succeeded with Bugatti Veyron that has a 1000 hp quad-turbocharged W16 engine.

After its loss to SSC Ultimate Aero, the Bugatti Veyron was upgraded to Bugatti Veyron Super Sport with a power of 1200hp. This Veyron Super Sport is capable of a top speed of 268 mph. This performance led to it being recognized by the Guinness Book of World records as the second fastest car in the world at that time.
